About Us

The Perkiomen Valley Art Department provides an engaging K-12 curriculum of the highest quality for all diverse learners. We introduce our early artists to expansive practices that develop their problem solving and creative skills while being innovative and original. The field includes traditional drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics and sculpture, as well as modern technologies in digital media arts. We empower them to transfer their knowledge as they grow intellectually, socially and emotionally. Advanced students are guided to improve their skills, expand their creative vision, exercise their personal voice, and contribute to society as visual artists and reflective thinkers.

The Perkiomen Valley Art Boosters strive to create a partnership between PV art and community artists through fundraising and events. We provide professional development for art staff, scholarships and off-campus outings for PV art students, and a wide variety of art resources to foster an art education experience for K-12 students.

Raku Firing

The Raku technique is essentially when glazed ceramics are taken from the kiln while they are still glowing red hot and are then placed in a material that would be able to catch fire, such as sawdust or newspaper. This technique is used to starve the piece of oxygen, which creates a myriad of colors within the glaze.
